Special registration as a Professional Natural Scientist – Recognition of prior learning and experience

Description | Steps to follow | Legal framework | Service standard | Cost | Forms to complete | Contact details

Description

The South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) acknowledges the fact that certain individuals did not have the opportunity to obtain the level of tertiary education required by the Council for professional registration. However, such individuals may have contributed significantly to the scientific community and may continue do so for many years.

The Council has decided to provide such individuals with an opportunity to apply for registration as Professional Natural Scientists under certain conditions.

Any person without a qualification recognised by the Council can apply.

Applicants should:
  • be respected by their peers for their expertise in the chosen field of practice
  • have contributed to the scientific community
  • have a minimum of 10 years continuous, appropriate and professional experience immediately prior to application in the field of practice for which is applied.
Note: If you have left your profession during the ten-year period, you would not be allowed to register under this dispensation.

Evaluation of the applications will be done by the relevant Professional Advisory Committee, approval by the Registration Committee of SACNASP and authorisation by the Council.
