Register as a teacher

About registering as a teacher

Are you a qualified teacher looking for a job in South Africa? To teach in South Africa, you must first register with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).

You will not be employed as a teacher if you are not registered with SACE. Your qualification must be recognised for employment in education before you register with SACE. You will be paying a monthly subscription fee of R10.

If you have foreign qualifications, these must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) or the National Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) before you register with SACE.

Note: SAQA does not evaluate qualifications for the purpose of employment in specific work areas.
