Apply for refund of licence fees

About applying for refund of licence fees

If your motor vehicle has been stolen, deregistered or declared permanently unfit for use, you can apply for a refund of a motor vehicle licence fee.

Your application for refund must be made to the MEC of the province where your motor vehicle was registered within a period of three months after the date of notification of your motor vehicle’s deregistration. Your refund will be calculated at one twelfth of the motor vehicle licence fees paid in respect of your motor vehicle for every month for which your motor vehicle licence remains valid.

After your application has been received, the MEC concerned may refund you - however,  an amount of less than R100.00 shall not be refunded.
