Apply for a temporary driving licence

About applying for a temporary driving licence

You can apply for a temporary driving licence if you have applied for the renewal of your expired license or have lost your drivers licence.

This licence is valid for only six months and can be issued at any driving licence testing centre (DLTC).

What you should do

Go to the nearest driving licence testing centre with the following:

  • certified copy of your  identity document (ID) or temporary ID
  • two black and white ID photos
  • the prescribed fee.

Complete form DL1 (Application for a driving licence).

You will undergo an eye test at the testing centre or alternatively, you can do eye test at a qualified optometrist and submit the form at the testing centre.

The temporary driving licence is issued on the same day.
