About applying for renunciation of South African citizenship If you are granted citizenship of another country which does not allow dual nationality, you must renounce your South African citizenship. You will cease to be a South African citizen once the declaration is registered. Note: If you are under 18 years when your parents renounce their South African citizenship, you will also lose your citizenship unless the other parent remains a South African citizen. - Complete form: DHA-246 and DHA-529
- Submit the following:
- proof of foreign citizenship or letter confirming that foreign citizenship will be granted from authorities of that country
- birth certificate, required if you do not have identity number
- letter of motivation stating reasons for renunciation.
