What you should do
Contact the local state veterinarian and make an appointment.
You must obtain the following documents prior to the application and take them to the state veterinary office:
- an official certificate of adequate enclosure issued by the nature conservation authorities;
- a copy of a map showing the exact extent of land applied for.
You must complete an application form in the presence of the state veterinarian.
The state veterinarian must inspect the land and fences and confirm the disease status of the buffalo.
The head of veterinary services in the province must testify that sufficient resources are available to monitor conditions on the farm on a regular basis, that all buffalo movements onto and off the farm can be handled appropriately and that it will be possible to follow up irregularities without delay.
The application form must be signed by the owner/manager, the provincial state veterinarian and the head of veterinary services in the province. The head of veterinary services of the province must send the application to the Directorate Animal Health.
Officials at DAFF provide an official registration number, add the information to the national buffalo register and print a registration certificate for the owner of the land. The certificate is sent to the state veterinarian who submitted the application. You can collect the certificate from the local state veterinarian.
