Application to export chemicals

About application to export chemicals

If you want to export certain chemicals, you need permission from the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC).

The exportation of certain chemicals is subject to export control measures in terms of the provision of the International Trade Administration Act, 71 of 2002.

Chemicals are controlled to comply with provisions of the Montreal Protocol and the 1988 United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances. These are international efforts to protect the ozone layer and fight international drug manufacturing and dealing respectively.

When you apply for a permit to export these chemicals, you must get a recommendation letter from the SA Police Service (SAPS) or from the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA), depending on the chemical you want to export.
