How to do a VAT vendor search

Description | Steps to follow | Legal framework | Service standard | Cost | Forms to complete | Contact details

Description

The VAT vendor search function is an online website search application. This application can be used by business enterprises, members of the public, tourists and government departments to verify whether persons who supply goods or services are registered for VAT and to encourage the reporting of potential tax evaders.

Enterprises with a turnover of less than R1 million in a period of 12 months are not obliged to register for VAT. Only persons that carry on enterprises and are registered as vendors can charge VAT which must be paid over to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
