Application for evaluation of foreign qualifications


Description

The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) evaluates educational qualifications obtained outside South Africa. People with foreign qualifications who wish to attend South African education institutions or who wish to enter the South African labour market must apply to SAQA to have their qualifications evaluated. SAQA operates in line with the principles of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and according to international best practice.

To apply for the evaluation of foreign qualifications, study the procedural guidelines and tariff structure contained in theApplication guide and Tariff guide of the Centre for the Evaluation of Educational Qualifications (CEEQ).

Steps to follow

  • Obtain the application form from SAQA.
  • Complete the application form.
  • Provide legible and certified true copies of certificates, academic records or transcripts (for all higher education qualifications).
  • Certificates in foreign languages must be accompanied by sworn translations into English. Note that SAQA needs both the document in the original language and the sworn translation.

Legal framework

South African Qualifications Authority Act, 1995 (Act 58 of 1995)

Service standard

  • Normal application
    • A minimum of 30 (thirty) and up to 50 (fifty) working days
  • Urgent application
    • A minimum of 15 (fifteen) and up to 25 (twenty-five) working days
  • Priority application
    • A minimum of 5 (five) and up to 10 (ten) working days

Cost

Certificate of Evaluation

  • First application
    • Normal: Three hundred and sixty Rands only (R360)
    • Urgent: Five hundred and forty Rands only (R540)
    • Priority: Seven hundred and twenty Rands only (R720)
  • Any re-evaluation not as a result of an oversight by the CEEQ
    • Normal: Two hundred and ten Rands only (R210)
    • Urgent: Three hundred and ninety Rands only (R390)
    • Priority: Five hundred and seventy Rands only (R570)

Certified Copy of Certificate (if requested with application): Twelve Rands only (R12)

Certified Copy of Certificate (if requested afterwards): Twenty-four Rands only (R24)

Certified Statement

  • Letter certifying certain specific information, if within the jurisdiction of SAQA
    • Normal: Two hundred and ten Rands only (R210)
    • Urgent: Three hundred and ninety Rands only (R390)
    • Priority: Five hundred and seventy Rands only (R570)

Duplicate Certificate (original)

  • Issued only once and only in case of loss or damage. Affidavit required.
    • Two hundred and ten Rands only (R210)
