How to obtain a matric certificate

Description

You have to register for a minimum of six subjects and pass at least five, including two official languages. The two languages must be on higher grade. To pass with exemption, you must pass three HG subjects from three different subject groups. A matric pass with exemption may give you access to university.

You must obtain seven hundred and twenty (720) marks for a senior certificate pass and nine hundred and fifty marks (950) for a senior certificate pass with exemption.

You must complete the examinations in one sitting (i.e., write all six subjects in the same exam period). In the case of part-time candidates, you must complete the exams in not more than two sittings.

You are issued a matriculation (matric) certificate when you pass Grade 12 (Standard 10).

Note: The same criteria apply to immigrants, except that they need to pass only one official first language on the higher grade.
