Description
A
motor vehicle of which the license has been suspended,
deregistered, stolen, or that has been reconstructed or altered,
needs to be relicensed. This is also the case where ownership
changes or the motor vehicle is acquired from a deceased
estate.
The motor vehicle licence is valid for period of 12 months.

Steps to follow
- Contact your nearest traffic office.
- Complete an application form at your traffic office.
- Submit:
-
- an acceptable identity document
- the vehicle’s roadworthy certificate obtainable from vehicle
testing station
- a South African Police Clearance Certificate (in case of
stolen or reconstructed motor vehicle)
- a letter of Authority from the SABS (in case of altered or
reconstructed motor vehicle)
- the death certificate of the deceased (if applicable).
- Pay the required fee.
Note: Fees in arrears must be paid for motor vehicles of which
the licence has expired and were not renewed.
